What is a base coat and why do you need one?

A base coat is the first step after nail preparation. It creates adhesion between the natural nail and the gel or gel polish. Without a good base, the risk of lifting, chipping or peeling increases significantly, regardless of the quality of your colour product.
All Verin bases are HEMA- and TPO-free, making them suitable for clients with sensitive skin or nail beds.

Which base do you use when?

Verin offers three bases, each designed for a specific application:
  • Base LV (Low Viscosity) — thin consistency, ideal for thin or damaged nails. Penetrates deep into the nail plate for maximum adhesion.
  • Base Silicone (rubber base coat) — elastic and flexible, specially designed for use under hard gels (Builder Gel, E-Gel, Smart Gel). This rubber base gel prevents lifting on mobile nails thanks to its silicone formula.
  • Base Medium — versatile rubber base, suitable for both gel polish and builder gel applications. Combines flexibility with strong adhesion.

Rubber base coat: what is it and when should you choose one?

A rubber base coat is a flexible base with an elastic formula that moves with the natural nail. This makes a rubber base gel ideal for clients with thin, flexible or mobile nails who are prone to lifting.

At Verin, both the Base Silicone and Base Medium are suitable as a rubber base coat. The Base Silicone is the most elastic option and is primarily used under builder gel and hard gel systems. Also available as a Base Silicone refill bottle (50 ml). The Base Medium is more versatile and works under both gel polish and gel.

Benefits of a rubber base:

  • Less chipping and lifting due to flexible adhesion
  • Suitable for thin and damaged nails
  • Longer wear time for gel polish or gel treatments
  • HEMA- and TPO-free, safe for sensitive clients

Top coats: shine and protection
A top coat protects the colour layer and determines the finish. Verin offers no-wipe top coats in gloss, satin and specialised shades such as glitter and nude. All top coats are HEMA- and TPO-free.
Primer: when do you use one?
A primer is applied before the base coat on problematic nails, for example on nails that are prone to lifting or on clients with oily nail plates. Verin\'s HEMA-free primer provides extra adhesion without aggressive acids.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a rubber base and a regular base coat?

A rubber base coat is more elastic and moves with the nail. A regular base coat (such as Base LV) penetrates deep into the nail plate for maximum adhesion. Choose a rubber base for flexible or mobile nails, and Base LV for thin or damaged nails that need extra anchorage.

Do I always need to use a primer?

Not mandatory, but recommended for nails that lift easily. For most clients, Prep + Base is sufficient.

Can I combine base and top from different brands?

We advise against it. Chemical conflicts between brands can lead to lifting or discolouration. Preferably work within one system.

How long does curing take?

All Verin bases and tops cure in 60 seconds under an LED lamp of at least 48W.
